Fruit in its’ Peak Season
It’s summertime when many fruits are sweeter and less expensive. Have you heard the term stone fruit? They’re also known as drupes, because of a hard stone like center pit. This includes plums, nectarines, cherries and peaches. All four are the perfect choice for something naturally sweet that’s loaded with good nutrients and health benefits.
Cherries
Cherries are either sweet or tart. One cup provides 97 calories, fiber and vitamin C. They’re high in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds which subsequently may benefit exercise recovery, heart health and sleep quality. Enjoy cherries in baked goods, salads, trail mix, barbecue sauce, salsa or as an ice cream topping.
Peaches
Peaches are relatively low in calories. It’s a fruit that has fiber; vitamins A and C. Peaches are high in antioxidants and therefore may aid digestion and improve heart health. Grill, bake or sauté these gems or use as an ingredient in baked goods, jams, jellies, salsa and yogurt.
Nectarines

Plums
Plums are another low-calorie fruit with vitamins A, C and K. Their potent antioxidants may have a positive effect on bone health and finally may reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer. Plums are tasty in smoothies, salads, yogurt, jams and jellies.
